THE FIRE OF ANTICHRIST by Jeff Wingo

Revelation 13:13:  And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men…

Have you ever thought about the Fire of Antichrist? According to the biblical text, the False Prophet will produce fire from heaven to manifest on Earth in the sight of men.

The Bible calls God a “consuming fire” (Heb. 12:29). Moses saw a burning bush (Ex. 3:2), and Ezekiel saw rolling fire, flashing back and forth in the midst of the Cherubim. Fire consumed the sacrifices of Israel Lev.9:24), and we also see that fire was an instrument of Divine Judgment (Num. 11:1, 3; 2 Kings 1:10, 12); often fire was a sign of the power and presence of God (Judges  13:20; 1 Kings 18:38).

In the New Testament John the Baptist said that Jesus “shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire” (Matt 3:11), and the Holy Spirit appears  on each disciple in the Upper Room as “cloven tongues like as of fire” (Acts 3:2).

Of course I could go on, but the point is that in the Bible fire has a lot of applications, depending on the context. But the fire called down from heaven by the False Prophet is designed for one purpose: to impress humanity with the power of the Beast. I am of the opinion that when this fire comes down from the heavens it will be a destructive power (in more ways than one). Perhaps that is why men will cry out, “Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? (Rev.13:4b).

In ancient Israel the priests had to maintain fire on the altar continually (Lev. 6:13). If the fire went out for some reason it could only be restarted using friction (two pieces of wood from the altar rubbed together, according to tradition). If fire was obtained from any place other than the altar it was considered “strange fire” (Lev.10:1-3). Offering strange fire before the Lord cost Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu their lives, the Lord consumed them with fire.

The Fire of the Beast will be “strange fire,” because it will originate from a satanic source, perhaps it will come from the Great Red Dragon who will come down from the sky at a certain point in time, once Michael and his angelic army cast Satan, the Prince of the Power of the Air,  from his current domain, the atmospheric regions around Earth (Rev. 12:7-9).

Fire is one of the four elements of Western Culture, and it is also seen a symbol of the Divine, as lightning and a weapon, which touches heaven and Earth. In many ancient religious rituals fire is depicted as a symbol of purification, and as a symbol of insight and knowledge, or sometimes as wisdom, or, forbidden knowledge, the knowledge of the occult.

In Greek mythology Prometheus is depicted as the bringer of fire to mankind, and in many ancient cults this is a symbol of secret knowledge, reserved only for the adepts, or the cult elite. Initiates go through trials of fire to purify their soul in preparation to receive secret knowledge.

The cult of the Beast will be no different. In my book Alien Antichrist I demonstrate that the Image of the Beast is an occult initiation produced by the spirit of the Beast. Perhaps the Image of the Beast will be a public ritual and the fire that the False Prophet calls down from heaven is what causes the Image to be imprinted on the human mind.

You see, the End Times just might be more frightening than you have been led to believe.

Don’t let your ideas about the Last Days become set in stone. In other words, allow your understanding of End-Time events to grow and expand according to the Bible. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom. That way if things are different than the popular understanding as found in the church and culture (the Left Behind books and movies), you won’t be deceived.
